Liturgical Celebrations Suspended in Chicago

Dear Friends,
This letter is for all of our parishioners and our neighbors to share the latest information regarding the Archdiocese’s directives in response to the continuing spread of the coronavirus/COVID-19 throughout our country. Today,  Cardinal Blase Cupich, after consultation with appropriate government agencies and health professionals, and following the guidance from the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH),  announced the suspension of all public masses effective March 14, 2020.  Holy Family/Notre Dame de Chicago Parish will cooperate with this unfortunate yet necessary decision in the follow way:

  • All public celebrations of Sunday Mass, daily mass, and other regularly scheduled services of prayer and worship have been suspended until further notice.  This suspension will take effect immediately, except for a previously planned wedding at the Holy Family site tomorrow, March 14th.
  • We will live-stream Sunday Mass on our parish Facebook page at 10 am until the suspension is lifted. (Search “Holy Family-Notre Dame de Chicago” under pages in Facebook.)
  • Regular office hours are suspended until further notice.  We are currently working on the best way to ensure that phone calls are answered in a timely way.  It is best to contact the parish office via email

Let us all pray for patience, understanding, strength and generous hearts.  Peace.
Your brother in Christ,

Fr. Peter

The Parish with Heart in the Heart of the City

We are known as “The Parish With Heart in the Heart of the City!” What does that mean? It means that we are a Catholic Parish community with deep faith and concern for the larger city and world that surrounds us.

Notre Dame is a parish, founded in 1864, to continue the tradition of the Catholic Church sharing the Sacraments and Christian faith with the local community. We demonstrate our deep faith every week as we celebrate Catholic Mass with joy and reverence. We share the Holy Eucharist as well as the other Sacraments, devotions and forms of prayer. We have a deep devotion to Our Lady, Mary the Mother of God.

We are concerned about our community and the larger world around us as well. We are committed to serving those in our community through education, social support and cultural respect. We are committed to our larger community through our identity as a part of the history of Chicago, our work on service projects and evangelization.

As believers, we are called into being through our experience of the Paschal Mystery, the dying and rising of Christ. This dying and rising makes us who we are!
