Getting Involved in our Ministries
You are invited to consider lending your time and talent to the following ministries active at Notre Dame Parish. Each one of us has been gifted by God and, through our ministry structure here at Notre Dame, we place these gifts in service to one another.
Lectors> Lectors proclaim the Scripture readings at Mass (5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30am & 10:00 a.m. on Sunday). Two training sessions are required for all those who desire to proclaim the Word of God.
Communion Ministers > Extraordinary Ministers of Communion assist in distributing communion at both the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses. Training sessions are held in the fall months.
Ushers and Hospitality Ministers > Ushers help to greet those arriving for Mass. They also take up the collection, and pass out handouts at the end of Mass. Training happens "on the job" as it were, experienced ushers showing new ushers the ropes then and there!
Children’s Liturgy of the Word > Ministers for our Children’s Liturgy of the Word proclaim the Sunday Scriptures with young people (grade school age children) and they also offer a reflection on that Word of God geared to a child’s level of understanding. Our parish Pastoral Associate would love to get you involved and is available to train you!
Art and Environment> We are so lucky to have a gorgeous church here at Notre Dame! But still it does take some work to prepare the space for the various liturgical seasons. This ministry works to put out flowers and plants, banners and ribbons, Christmas trees and Easter crosses. If you are creative, then consider this ministry!
Nurturing the Spirit
Adult Catechism > Facilitators and Catechists for our adult initiation ministry work with adults who have never been baptized and who wish to prepare for baptism and they also work with baptized adults from other faiths who wish to become Catholic. Training for these facilitators and Catechists is done jointly by both our Pastoral Associate and RCIA Coordinator. If this is something that may interest you – we’d welcome your interest and your God-given talents and skills in this important area of evangelization work!
Young Adult Ministry > Notre Dame is now organizing a new Young Adult Ministry! Young Adults are people in their 20's and 30's who are college students, grad students, young professionals, young couples and young families. Focused on the future of the Church and our own mysterious futures, Notre Dame's Young Adult Ministry will offer time to reflect on the things that are most important. Monthly events will show up on the calendar. Look for how you can get involved!
Youth Council > Young people in Middle and High School are invited to participate in Notre Dame's Youth Council teen ministry. A planning meeting scheduled for September 29th at 2pm in the rectory will set the schedule for the coming year. Look for more information about upcoming events! (or come to the meeting and have your own input!)
Charismatic Ministry> If you are looking for an enthusiastic and high spirited worship, this is for you! The Charismatics meet every Saturday evening and celebrate God's love with music and reflection. Join us if you are interested in the Hispanic style of charismatic worship.
Guadalupana Society> This is the Hispanic Ministry at Notre Dame Church. This group organizes and plans for various Hispanic focused parish events such as: El Dia de los Muertos, the novena and feast day of La Virgen de Guadalupe, and the Good Friday procession. Everyone loves a good Tamale!
Filipino Ministry> This is a new and old ministry at Notre Dame. There have been Filipinos at Notre Dame since the beginning and they have been very important and integral to the life of the parish. But now you will see some new events on the calendar that will have a distinct Filipino theme such as the feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz and Simbang Gabi. We look forward to the faith, fun and food!
Ministers of Praise> This is a group of dedicated parishioners who pray for the needs of the parish. Everyone needs prayers and if you love to pray and think about those in need, please join this important ministry.
